ABV 20.5%

Made on the farm Axe Hill with heritage.

Calitzdorp is in the Klein Karoo, well inland from the main coastal regions and an area that feels like the ‘real’ Africa.
Grape Variety: Touriga Nacional, Souzao and Tinta Barocca – three of the classic Potuguese varieties as used in the Douro; all foot-trodden in the traditional way, fortified and then aged in old French oak barrels for 2 years
Producer: founded in 1993, by the late Tony Mossop, Axe Hill has followed the Cape’s fine tradition of Port-style wines and become the leader in that field
Cellar Potential: Can be drunk young but will also mature gracefully for 20+ years
Old Bridge Rating: Young and powerful, this is impressive if still youthful. Works as well with chocolate pudding as it does with blue cheese
